These loudspeakers were co-developed by Howard Lee, the design engineer and Jeff Wong, the manager and distributor for Audio Enterprise—a company that carries Connoisseur vacuum tube amplifiers and CD players among other goodies. Without much ado, let’s get straight to the Model Twos.

Appearance:
The enclosures—there are two for each channel—come in a highgloss black piano finish and look quite impressive stacked with the woofer serving as the pedestal for the midrange and tweeter cabinet. The two systems are coupled together with cables, but can be connected with one single bi-wireNordost speaker cable which is split just long enough to connect to both systems. Our model camewith Raven R1.0 super tweeters (made in France) placed on top of the stacked enclosures and connectedwith their own short cables. Sounds complicated, but it really isn’t.Other available finishes include birdseye maple and the cabinets do not come with grilles. If thisoffends, arrangements can be made to cover the entire surface, but note that these (and mostother) speakers sound best without grilles. The Model Twos weigh a hefty 67 pounds each, stand 110cm high, 32cm deep and 26cm wide. They look rather elegant in black piano finish and they’ll make agreat addition to any listening environment.

Technology:
First, the enclosures that house the loudspeakers’ components. One enclosure accommodates a one-inch tweeter and a 6.5 inch midrange driver with a front-firing port. The bottom enclosure houses a single woofer. Both cabinets are made of Russian birch plywood and MDF. The birch is used as the baffle as well as in both top and bottom sections of each cabinet. This is augmented by MDF on five sides resulting in a double-wallconstruction and greatly diminished resonance. A number of well-placed braces also help keep the resonance frequencies at bay.
